"Best Rap Performance" at Derana Music Video Awards

DeLon is recognized for "Best Rap Performance" at Derana Music Video Awards.

DeLon was recently recognized in Sri Lanka for “Best Rap Performance” by the Derana Music Video Award Show, which is equivalent to MTV in the United States. DeLon was recognized for his work in the “A Hetha” music video and as a proud Sri Lankan representing his country in the United States.

DeLon has stirred much controversy for his criticisms on the terrorist group, The LTTE, and has been recognized by the Sri Lankan media as a national hero for standing up against the terrorist group. In controversial videos released by DeLon on youtube, DeLon brings awareness of the LTTE group to the Western Hemisphere. However, his comments were not met lightly by the LTTE group.

As DeLon explains, “Many Sri Lankan entertainers can’t do what I can do, simply because if they stood up against LTTE - they would be threatened with their lives.” DeLon continues, “I don’t think the rest of the world outside of Sri Lanka understand the gravity of the situation. They are killing innocent people, Tamil, Muslim and Singhalese on a daily basis. I’ve gotten death threats - emails, voicemails, call to my workplace and my personal phone, all pretty much telling me that they’re coming for me.” Through the threats, DeLon continues to push his message and create awareness for the situation in Sri Lanka. “They can threaten me all they want, but, they can’t stop the message. It’s a worldly message that we will not tolerate their acts of terrorism. I won’t stop. It’s time for change and it’s time for the innocent to have a voice. Since I have the stage and the ability to, I’ll serve as their voice. The LTTE will not be tolerated in Sri Lanka or anywhere else around the world!”, concludes DeLon.

Ceylon Records Recording artist Delon responds to M.I.A. with a message of peace.

DeLon’s video that utilizes a remix of M.I.A’s song, “Paper Planes”, has stirred mass amounts of controversy throughout the blogosphere and media, including front page of the BBC Entertainment Website. Projecting comparisons of M.I.A’s “terrorist chic” image with the Sri Lankan terrorist group, the LTTE, DeLon has drawn comments and letters ranging from praise and admiration to hatred and death threats. DeLon responds to his fans and critics with another remix music video that exhibits a rare message of peace and unity from a hip-hop rapper.

Los Angeles, California, August 22, 2008 - Ceylon Records recording artist, DeLon, responds to accusations of being a “self-promoter” by Interscope recording artist, M.I.A. As reported by online magazine Pitchfork on August 7, 2008, M.I.A. responds to DeLon’s controversial remix video of her song, “Paper Planes”, by denying her support of terrorism and claiming that her music is the voice of a civilian refugee. She continues to describe DeLon’s video as an act of “self-promotion”. Since then, DeLon has released a blog on his website explaining his motivation behind the notorious Diss Video and on August 15, 2008 he released his follow-up video and response to his fans and critics.

Remixing Michael Jackson’s, “Man in the Mirror”, DeLon provides another educational video through the hip-hop medium as he raps about his message and mission of peace and unity throughout his country of Sri Lanka and around the globe. A rare stance by a hip-hop rapper, DeLon's motivation was not to target M.I.A., but to target the atrocities happening in his country and around the world. DeLon says, "My mission was not to expose or target M.I.A., I am targeting the symbols that she uses in her music and videos." DeLon asks the question, "If my father was part of the Klu Klux Klan, and I wanted nothing to do with it, would I put guys dressed up in white sheets in my videos?" DeLon is targeting terrorists. He is asking governments and civilians around the globe to open their eyes to the injustices that are happening all around us. DeLon continues, "We are in a period of war. We are in a period of change. We as human beings are facing our own self-demise through our ignorance and unwillingness to find peace and global unity."

Ceylon Records and DeLon are compiling a peace CD with the biggest names in Sri Lankan music and having all proceeds go to a charity fund that supports child soldier refugees from the LTTE terrorist group in Sri Lanka. Says DeLon, "The Diss Video was to bring attention to M.I.A.'s symbolisms. Whether she voluntarily knows it or not, her symbols represent those that support the LTTE and terrorism in Sri Lanka. There is a much bigger conflict in Sri Lanka and across the globe than just me and M.I.A." Major artists in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan expatriate artists will join hands on this compilation CD. DeLon asks M.I.A. to solidify her stance against terrorism, the LTTE, and child soldiers, and be a part of the solution by being a part of the peace CD. "I would like to put all differences aside and invite M.I.A. to represent something positive and help her country of Sri Lanka to provide for those children that are involuntarily affected by this war", says DeLon. The ball is now in M.I.A.'s court and we are all anxiously awaiting her response.

Press Release

Interscope artist M.I.A. exposed for promoting terrorism

LOS ANGELES, CA, AUGUST 1, 2008 - Sri Lankan/American hip-hop artist, DeLon, exposes Interscope recording artist, M.I.A., as a supporter of terrorism, through her affiliation and promotion of the terrorist group, The Liberation Tiger Tamils of Eelam (LTTE). The LTTE has long been recognized by the FBI as one of the deadliest terrorist groups in the world, and has been credited with the perfection of the use of suicide bombers, invention of the suicide belt, mass recruitment of child soldiers, and pioneering the use of women in suicide attacks. The LTTE is only terrorist organization to have assassinated two world leaders.

On July 29, 2008, DeLon posted his remixed version of M.I.A’s song, “Paper Planes” on YouTube. The educational video contained graphic evidence of M.I.A’s promotion of the LTTE. Within 12 hours of release, the video drew over 6,000 user views and comments. Minutes later, Interscope under the Universal Music Group (UMG) umbrella, had the video removed from YouTube for “endangerment” of M.I.A.’s phony reputation as a “Freedom Fighter.” Subsequently, DeLon is filing a lawsuit against UMG for infringement of his 1st Amendment rights. On July 31, 2008, the video was made available for download at: http://public.me.com/ceylonrecords and generated over 3,000 downloads in just 2 hours.

As the most recognizable Sri Lankan hip-hop artist after winning the “Best Rap Performance” Award from Derana Music Television (equivalent to MTV in the U.S.) and an emerging international star, DeLon, uses his visibility and music to draw light to the LTTE’s ongoing and inhumane terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka. As one of the few entertainers willing to stand up to the LTTE, DeLon has drawn mass popularity from Sri Lankans and Sri Lankan expatriates throughout Sri Lanka, Australia, Germany, the UK, Canada, France, and the United States.

DeLon is the first Sri Lankan/American to ever land on the U.S. Billboard Charts, a feat he accomplished twice for his singles: “Calor De La Salsa” and “Nasty Girl.” As exemplified with his “The Unity Through Education Tour,” where he spoke to students in over 65 High Schools and Colleges in the Greater LA area, DeLon stands for unity, positivity and human causes that plague our society.

Recently partnering with Greenpeace Organization, and through his own nonprofit, The Sri Lanka Foundation, DeLon has helped spread light on the atrocities around the globe through his music and has built over 80 houses in Sri Lanka after the wreckage of the Tsunami in 2004.

India Takes All Precautions as Prime Minister Prepares to Visit Sri Lanka.

South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation (SAARC) takes place in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka s biggest ever security operation is underway with armed forces and police given multiple targets to thwart a major LTTE attack during the 15th SAARC conference.

The military said preventing an LTTE attack in the city and its suburbs in the next few days would be a major priority. It would be an element in the overall security objectives aimed at keeping the LTTE at bay, a security official said.

The bottomline was that security forces and police would have to thwart major terrorist attacks in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, Kandy or down South, he said. `They ll attempt a major assault to make their presence felt’, he said, warning the LTTE could strike anywhere.

India would deploy a few transport helicopters for the convenience of the visiting Indian dignitaries, he said. Two Indian warships the Delhi class destroyer Mysore and Rajput class destroyer INS Ranvir would be stationed outside Sri Lankan territorial waters 12 nautical miles off the western coast, SLN headquarters said. The two ships would be in place today, he said.

We all know this struggle, we all share this struggle." This song tells a story about a boy growing up in a village of his country of Sri Lanka where hospital care and common medicines are lacking. DeLon Returns To His Island and Tours The Country!

DeLon returned to Sri Lanka for the second time after the tragic Tsunami disaster. "This year has been crazy and next year is gonna be even more crazy. I wanted to go back to my country and release my first Sri Lankan album so that my people have something from me before things get too wild", says DeLon. DeLon left for Sri Lanka in mid-November to start production on his debut Sri Lankan album, "King of Ceylon". Returning to much publicity and fanfare, DeLon kicked off his return with a Y! FM Concert at Mt. Lavinia Beach, Sri Lanka. With a crowd of over 8,000 people, DeLon throws them in a frenzy with his exciting performance, a shirtless freestyle battle and an overall display of a dynamic, American rapper. We catch up with DeLon on his way back to the States:

Inteviewer: Tell us about your mini-break in Sri Lanka, DeLon. DeLon: Hahaha.. man, it was far from a break. Put it this way, it was like 4 months of production, publicity and shows jammed all into 1 month. Just ask Ceylon Records CEO, Marshall, he was there with me as we literally had 5 appointments a day, everyday that I was there. Far from a break, but, it was f****g fun!

Interviewer: What was it like that first show with Y! FM? DeLon: Wow.. it was f***g crazy man! I just got to the country and right away, they wanted me to do a show. The people were awesome, they showed so much love. See to Sri Lanka, I'm an American rapper and to the States, I'm a Sri Lankan rapper. Which kinda leaves me somewhere in the middle! So to the crowd, they were amazed and extremely supportive that a rapper of Sri Lankan descent can compete on the same level as more notable American rappers. It was definitely a real good time.

Interviewer: Give us a briefing of what you were doing in Sri Lanka. DeLon: Alot of everything, basically. I did like 8 shows, 3 being really big events. The Y! FM concert, The New Year's Bash at the Taj Hotel - which was f***g crazy, and the Natara concert with Bathiya and Santhush. I gotta really thank BNS by the way, cuz those guys really helped me out quite a bit and showed me a real good time. I did interviews for like 4 TV stations, I help host shows for 2 radio stations, shot 3 music videos and interviewed for numerous magazines, while at the same time trying to finish my album. I'm telling you, it was no easy feat. I barely had enough time to connect with all my friends out there.

Interviewer: Sri Lanka being an island, no mojitos by the beach or what? DeLon: Hahahaha! Well, you know, you gotta know how to stay busy AND at same time have some fun, right? Yeah, we definitely did some of that. You gotta understand, Sri Lankan people know how to f***g party! Til 6 in the morning the clubs stay open! Damn, I couldn't hang like that, but, I definitely did have some fun. By the way, no mojitos, the drink is Arrack. It's like this coconut alcohol that f**ks you up! No joke! That s**t is potent as f**k! Hahahaha!

Interviewer: Remind me to stay away from that! Hahaha! So, what's next inline for DeLon? DeLon: So much. There's so much work coming back to the States. The second I land, I jump right back on tour with the "Unity Through Education Tour" sponsored by Ceylon Records. I'm working on my second album,"Reality Vs. Perception", that seems to be never ending as we are now trying to get a major producer on board. We started film on my next music video, "We Strugglin'", in Sri Lanka and are gonna finish in the States. "We Strugglin'" will be my first single out this year. Hopefully, I go 3 for 3 with Billboard charting singles. This is my break-out year, so I gotta stay focused and stay on the grind all year. It'll be tough, it'll be alot of work, but in the end, it'll be all worth it!

Interviewer: Well, good luck to you, DeLon! Judging from you've done thus far, there is no doubt that this is your year. Congratulations on the successful trip and we'll speak soon! DeLon: Thank you, sir. Big things Poppin', baby! Stay tuned.
